History of the Department
The Department of Occupational Therapy of the School of Physical Education, Sport and Occupational Therapy (S.E.F.A.A.E.) at the Democritus University of Thrace (D.U.Th.) was established in 2024 by Article 8 of Law 5094/2024 (Government Gazette A’ 39).
Undergraduate studies in the Department of Occupational Therapy lead to a Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy (without specializations or concentrations). Holders of a Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy may obtain a license to practice as occupational therapists from the Ministry of Health, following their registration with the Panhellenic Association of Occupational Therapists (Law 4461/17). According to the National Qualifications Framework, the level of the degree (Bachelor’s in Occupational Therapy) is defined as Level 6 (equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree).
Purpose of the Department
The primary purpose of the Undergraduate Program of the Department of Occupational Therapy is to provide students with a solid theoretical background in the most significant areas of Occupational Therapy, to familiarize them with the fundamental principles and methods of occupational therapy rehabilitation, to foster research and innovation in the field, and to advance the science of Occupational Therapy both nationally and internationally. It also aims to significantly enhance and supplement the range of tools that improve self-maintenance in daily life and the quality of life of clinical populations, by offering specialized knowledge in these subject areas.
Mission of the Department
The mission of the Department of Occupational Therapy includes:

- The integration of academic, educational, and research activities that align with evolving international practices and developments in the relevant scientific field.
- The implementation of quality assurance and enhancement procedures across all educational activities.

- Providing opportunities for undergraduate students to gain work experience through their studies, which will be reflected in the prospects created for their subsequent professional engagement in the labor market.
